Join Brandon with his very special guest, emeritus professor and former AP English Language Chief Reader David Jolliffe for a guided exploration of Jolliffe’s Rhetorical Framework and its applications in the AP English Language classroom. We’ll unpack how the framework connects rhetorical situation, appeals, effects, writers’ choices—and, importantly, how students can move upward through the framework when analyzing a text and downward when constructing an argument. Along the way, we’ll consider practical ways the framework can help students read more purposefully, write more intentionally, and better understand the relationships among choices, effects, audience, purpose, and exigence.
